title: Cornell Slide w/ bulb aka: Cornell slit film |
Description: Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory diffraction slide is a set of slits to look through at a vertical filament bulb. The diffraction pattern projects onto the retina. Various diffraction phenomina can be seen. A printed guide to the slits is available and reproduced here. With the CAL symbol in the upper right corner, each column shows a different effect. The left column starts with a wide slit at the top and becomes 16 times more narrow moving to the bottom. The 2nd col is a continuously varrying slit. The 3rd col shows the effect of multiple slits in the same width, with the finest at the center. The 4th col starts with 1 slit, then 2,3,4, and 10 evenly spaced and equally wide slits. The 5th col starts with one, then goes to 2, then the 2 get progressively farther appart going down. Questions? What is the main difference between single and double slits? Which single slit is the narrowest on the film? What happens when two slits get closer together? What happens when there are multiple single slits equally spaced? |
