DCS# 3D40.20NWU# S-31Location:  rod behind catwalk ladder
title: Vibrating Rod
aka:     Singing Rod

Description:
Rod, when tapped on the end and held at the center, will ring with at the fundimental frequency of a longitudinal wave bouncing from end to end.  (But also odd harmonics, 3f, 5f, etc, which have nodal points at the center.
When held at a point 1/4 the length from the end, the second harmonic can be produced.
The resonant modes can also be produced, with more control over the harmonic produced, by stroking with rosen coated fingers.
The singing rod can show doppler effect when moved toward or away from the audience, and a two point interference pattern is present as well.

Question:
What is the difference between modes of resonance?

Would this work on the moon?
