title: Vertical Resonace Rope
aka:   Hanging standing waves

Description:
A motor hangs on the end of a string.  Its weight sets the tension in the string, and remains constant as does its frequency of vibration.  As the string is lengthened, standing waves appear at L = 1/2 lamda, 2/2 lamda, 3/2 lamda, etc.. showing resonance at differring lengths.

Questions:
What analogy to sound resonating in a tube does this show?  Half wavelength tubes or quarter wavelength tubes?
What happens if the virbration rate is reduced by inserting a dummy battery?
